In Depth: Soitec is looking good in Southern California

Clark Crawford is proud of many aspects of the Concentrix concentrating PV (CPV) technology that Soitec is preparing to manufacture and deploy in southern California.

And that includes the appearance. As he stands beneath a billboard-­sized demonstration unit mounted on a dual-axis tracker, he points out the dappled sunlight coming through the translucent modules and the sparkling oranges, blues and greens reflecting off the Fresnel lenses.

Appearance is important. “Given that these are on trackers and up off the ground, and that there’s a freeway running through it, it’s probably going to be the most visible solar farm in the US,” Crawford, head of sales and business development at Soitec’s solar unit in North America, tells Recharge.
