Massachusetts-based
Konarka
will
work
with
ThyssenKrupp
–
Germany’s
largest
steel
producer
–
to
develop
PV-coated
construction
elements
that
can
be
incorporated
into
building
façades
and
other
installations
in
multiple
colours.
Lars
Pfeiffer,
head
of
quality
and
development
at
ThyssenKrupp’s
colour/construction
unit,
claims
the
overlap
between
the
two
companies’
roll-to-roll
manufacturing
processes
means
Konarka’s
technology
can
be
incorporated
into
steel
products
“at
low
cost”.
This
will
make
them
attractive
to
architects
and
designers
in
the
emerging
building-integrated
PV
(BIPV)
sector,
the
partners
hope.
