San Francisco solar scheme aims to hit the city's rooftops

San Francisco is bolstering its position as a solar city, with a new scheme to encourage development on rooftops of local businesses.

Mayor Edwin Lee announced the Solar@Work programme at the Intersolar North America conference.

He also boasted of the city’s incentives and the role they played in securing the North American headquarters of Chinese manufacturer China Sunergy.

Lee restated San Francisco’s goal — set by his predecessor — of shifting to 100% renewable energy by 2020.

He says the effort to combat climate change must be led by the biggest industrial cities in the world. “You are part of an effort to save this world,” Lee told the conference.
