Libya unveils $3bn project to supply green electricity to Europe

Libya has accelerated its plans to become an exporter of renewable energy to Europe, while Egypt has completed its first utility-scale solar-thermal project.

Libya has chosen Abu Dhabi’s Al Maskari Holdings to build a $3bn energy hub to boost domestic supplies and eventually flow electricity across the Mediterranean to Europe.

The project will include both renewable energy and conventional power generation from fuels such as natural gas, as well as a high-voltage subsea transmission line linking Libya to Italy’s grid.
