First Solar sells 30MW project in New Mexico to Southern Turner

Business magnate Ted Turner and US energy generation giant Southern Company land their first solar photovoltaic (PV) project under the renewable energy development alliance they launched earlier this year. They are buying a 30 megawatt (MW) project from thin film module manufacturer First Solar.

First Solar will serve as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the Cimarron I project in northern New Mexico, adjacent to land owned by Turner, who is the largest individual landowner in North America. Construction is set to begin this month and be completed by the end of the year, employing 200 people at its peak.
