China’s Yingli Solar has supplied 1MW of modules to Brazil’s Grupo Neoenergia for the first PV plant in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco.
The project features more than 3,650 panels that will deliver clean electricity to Arena Pernambuco stadium, the site of five World Cup football matches this summer.
The ground-mount system is located on 15,000 square meters of land in Sao Lourenço de Mata, a suburb of regional capital Recife, and will generate more than 1.5GWh annually.
It will meet 30% of Arena Pernambuco's electricity demand. When the stadium is not in use, the solar power will be delivered to the local community's electricity grid through Brazil's net energy metering programme.
