Gestamp Solar has switched on a 5MW solar power plant in Puerto Rico – claimed by the Spanish developer to be the largest of its type in Latin America.

The installation at Puerto Rico’s Conventions Centre is composed of 17,000 PV modules installed over parking spaces on both sides of the facility, with another 2,000 on its roof.

Gestamp Solar has invested more than $20m, creating 125 jobs during the eight months of the construction and 25 permanent positions for maintenance services.

Pablo Otín, Gestamp Solar’s country manager in North America, claims the project is the biggest to marry PV and parking shelters in Latin America.
