BioSolar hails first order for PV backsheet

The technology is used with conventional cells

US PV materials developer BioSolar has won a first commercial order for its innovative BioBacksheet, a non-petroleum-based base layer for solar cells.

The first shipment of the organic backsheet, which protects conventional cells while providing electrical insulation, will be used to manufacture lightweight, high-power-to-weight ratio, highly durable PV panels for electric utility vehicles.

“This first commercial order marks an important event in the history of our company. In spite of recent turmoil in the solar market, customers are attracted to the unique product features of BioBacksheet,” says BioSolar chief executive David Lee.

He claims the sale clears the way for the company to expand into mainstream PV markets, as it sets the seal on Biosolar’s internal testing, qualification, and UL  (Underwriters Laboratories)…
