NET links with NREL for SolarWindow

A NET scientist works on SolarWindow

US solar outfit New Energy Technologies (NET) has moved into the second phase of a co-operative research and development agreement (Crada) with the Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) over its transparent PV concept.

Through the Crada, NET aims to fine-tune the deposition of various coatings that make its SolarWindow technology able to generate electricity on surfaces including clear and tinted plastics and glass.

"This second phase of the Crada emphasises [our] active commitment to develop the SolarWindow see-through electricity-generating coatings into commercially valuable building-integrated products, with the assistance of world-class research teams at NREL," says NET vice president for business and technology development, J. Patrick Thompson.

As well as spurring optimisation of SolarWindow's efficiency and transparency, the Crada will also look to develop high-speed and large-area roll-to-roll and sheet-to-sheet coating methods needed for commercial-scale building-integrated PV…
