Dominion acquires US Georgia solar project

Dominion, one of the largest US utilities, has a acquired a 7.7MW solar energy development project in Georgia that it plans to bring into commercial operation in fourth quarter this year.

The purchase price and other financial details were not made public. Sellers of the Azalea Solar Power Facility located about 95km southwest of the City of Augusta were Smart Energy Capital and Jacoby Development.

Dominion, based in Virginia, will select a contractor and oversee construction of the project - its first for solar energy.

Dominion chief executive Thomas Farell says adding solar is consistent with the utility's philosophy that affordable and reliable electric supply depends on a proper balance of all types of generation.
