Fluor to build 45MW Centinela phase

US engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) giant Fluor has secured the sign-off to proceed on the 45MW second phase of the Centinela Solar Energy Facility, with the full 170MW slated to be on line by mid-2014.

Last September Fluor was awarded a lump-sum EPC contract for Centinela by the developer LS Power and a notice-to-proceed for the 125MW first phase.

Fluor broke ground at the project, located 145km east of San Diego in California’s Imperial County, in December.

China’s Yingli Solar was named module supplier, in a deal marking its largest-ever order.

“This is a significant project for Fluor and we are very pleased to be able to build on our relationship with LS Power,” says Matt McSorley, senior vice president of Fluor’s Power Group.
