Power-One, Panasonic link for storage

Panasonic will bring its li-ion battery technology to the alliance

US inverter specialist Power-One has formed an alliance with Japanese electronics giant Panasonic to develop and market energy-storage systems for solar.

The two companies say their joint efforts in the US and Europe will cover the full range of PV installations, from residential to utility-scale, grid-connected arrays.

In Japan the partners will target storage for the non-residential sector, and will work together in the large-scale inverter segment.

Power-One will bring its inverter technology to the partnership, with Panasonic contributing its lithium-ion battery expertise.

Launching the co-operation agreement, the pair cited estimates of an $11bn global market for energy-storage systems by 2020.
