SunEdison to build 100MW Chile PV plant

SunEdison, the development arm of polysilicon and wafer giant MEMC, has nabbed a deal to build a 100MW PV array in Chile for the steel group CAP, in what will be the largest solar project in Latin America.

The deal represents a huge win for SunEdison’s Latin American team, having established offices in Chile, Brazil and Mexico since 2010 – and further underscores the growing importance of the region's solar market.

Yesterday Geneva-based Etrion revealed a letter of intent to build an 8.8MW PV system for a different Chilean miner.

SunEdison’s 100MW project will use 300,000 of MEMC’s own-brand Silvantis monocrystalline modules, as well as solar trackers made from CAP-supplied steel. No timelines were specified for the project.
