The solarthermal tower – which will have 17.5 hours of molten-salts storage capability –will be sited in Chile’s sun-rich Atacama Desert, which has also become afavourite location for PV developers.

Abengoasaid the project will be the largest of its type in South America and followsits success in a tender run by the Chilean government, which will part-financethe plant along with the EU.
