EDPR starts building US PV

EDP Renewables (EDPR) is starting construction work on its 30MW Lone Valley PV project in the United States.

Located in Southern California, it will be EDPR’s first solar project in the US.

Acquired last year from Lincoln Renewable Energy, the project has 20-year power purchase agreements (PPA) with Southern California Edison and is expected to be finished in 2014.

EDPR, majority-owned by Portugal’s EDP and a major wind-power operator, is trying to diversify its growth by embracing other renewable technologies.

The company already owns 50MW of PV in Romania, installed in 2012-2013.
