EPE, Juwi team for 10MW Texas PV
El Paso Electric Company (EPE) and a unit of Juwi Solar have signed a turnkey agreement for a 10MW PV (AC) plant in Northeast El Paso, Texas, that will begin generating electricity in December.
The deal calls for Newman Solar LLC to develop, design, build and operate the Newman Solar ground-mounted PV project.
EPE will purchase the plant’s electricity, renewable energy credits and associated attributes over a 30-year period. The facility will interconnect to EPE’s new Patriot Substation via a dedicated 13.8 kV distribution feeder line.
The two companies say the PV plant will power more than 3,800 homes.
“We continue to look for opportunities to add cost effective solar energy such as the Newman Solar project, which in the long run helps reduce emissions and provide cleaner air. EPE is at the forefront in the solar energy industry, which is fitting given our location and abundance of the solar resources,” says EPE chief executive Tom Shockley.
EPE currently has 47MW of solar power in its generation mix and recently secured an additional 50MW of solar power that will be online by the summer. Solar will then represent 5% of EPE’s dedicated generation.
EPE is a regional electric utility providing generation, transmission and distribution service to approximately 394,000 retail and wholesale customers.
