Whileacknowledging that some “specific items” used in NSM projects must bemanufactured in India,Tarun Kapoor, joint secretary at the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy,insists the country is not in violation of WTO rules.

Thedomestic content requirements applied to Indian PV projects totalling some 350MWlast year, Kapoor told The Wall Street Journal – less than 30% of the totalmarket.

OnWednesday the USannounced it had requested WTO dispute settlement consultations with the Indiangovernment, saying that the NSM “appears to discriminate” against US solarmanufacturers.
