First Solar, which was recently named the world’s largest PV engineering, procurement and construction contractor in 2012, purchased the project from an affiliate of Goldman Sachs and a third equity partner for an undisclosed amount.
The project will include 40MW of modules already purchased from another supplier, with First Solar set to supply the remainder.
The original developer, SolarGen2, nabbed a 25-year power purchase agreement with San Diego Gas & Electric for the project in 2011, but faced opposition from some locals about the potential environmental impact and location in southern Imperial County.
