The layoffs, to be implemented by the end of August, andapparently part of an ongoing restructuring effort started earlier this year,will see SolarWorld discontinue the manufacture of ingots and wafers in Oregon.Cell production will continue.
SolarWorld will be left with 650 workers at the $400mfactory after the layoffs, down from a peak of about 1,000. The state of Oregonhas reportedly given SolarWorld more than $40m in tax breaks over the years.
