Despitehuge reductions in recent years, the cost of PV remains relatively expensive inthe US, with comparable installations as much as 40% cheaper in countries likeGermany, Italy and Australia.

Thereason, the report claims, is down to non-module costs, including inverters andmounting systems, but also – and increasingly – “soft costs”, such aspermitting and inspections, marketing and customer acquisition.

Inthe past, modules so dominated the overall cost of a PV system that ancillaryexpenses were of limited relevance.
