Thepetition for involuntary bankruptcy was filed in New York under Chapter 7 ofthe US Bankruptcy Code by a group of Suntech bondholders.
ThePV manufacturer said the group seeking its US bankruptcy account for $1.6m ofthe $541m of bonds that it defaulted on earlier this year.
Thecompany said in a statement it has until 6 November to respond to thebankruptcy petition and will challenge it.
