The job cuts will go into effect immediately, and will not have an impact on REC Silicon’s planned 19,500 tonnes of production this year, all of it based in the US.
“We did not take this decision lightly,” says Tore Torvund, who is currently REC Silicon president, but who will take over as chief executive from Ole Enger next month.
“It is unfortunate that this decision is necessary in order to remain competitive during continued periods of uncertainty.”
