In March 2014 NRG – among the largest US IPPs, with 48GW of generation capacity – shook the US renewables industry by unveiling its intention to take on SolarCity by diversifying into residential solar leases and PPAs through its acquisition of New Jersey-based Roof Diagnostics Solar. NRG Home Solar is now a top-five installer of rooftop PV in the US.
