Eneco buys PV plant to power Honda
Dutch utility Eneco has made its first foray into the UK solar market by buying a 10MW PV project that will deliver power to a Honda automotive plant.
Eneco said the Sevor Farm Solar project will meet about 64% of the energy needs of Honda’s engine plant near Swindon, southwest England, when it starts operating adjacent to the factory in early 2015.
Eneco will work with existing developer AEE Renewables to build the project, including the addition of flood protection.
The acquisition is the first investment in UK solar by Eneco, which is well established on the British wind scene through its onshore pipeline and 50% share in the Navitus Bay Round 3 offshore project.
Eneco has a 36MW solar portfolio elsewhere in Europe.
