Etrion, Hitachi link for Japan PV
Swiss-based PV specialist Etrion has signed a deal with a unit of Hitachi to jointly finance and develop utility-scale solar plants in Japan.
Etrion said the partnership agreement with Hitachi High-Technologies Corporation (HHT) aims to have at least 100MW of projects in construction or shovel-ready by next year.
A statement said the duo plan to start building their first plant this year, without giving further details.
The two partners cited Japan’s 28GW by 2020 solar target and government policy support including its “attractive” feed-in tariff as drivers of the joint initiative.
The announcement of the Japanese tie-up came as Etrion revealed a one-year delay to a project in its existing key development area – Chile.
The company said the 8.8MW Aguas Blancas PV project, which was expected to enter construction this quarter, will be delayed by a year after the iodine mine it is being built to serve announced a reduction in output.
