Saft gets Reunion PV storage nod
French battery maker Saft has landed a contract from compatriot developer Akuo to supply a lithium-ion (Li-ion) energy storage system as part of a 9MW PV development on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean.
The contract, won with Spanish power electronic specialist Ingeteam and Reunion-based Corex Solar, will see delivery of an Intensium Max+ 20E containerized battery system for the Bardzour solar farm at Le Port.
Bardzour is the largest installation announced in the group of 16 PV projects awarded in 2012 under the France’s 50MW Commission de Régulation de l’Energie tender for solar power production capacity with storage in Corsica and other French overseas territories.
Delivery of the Li-ion system is scheduled in the “first half of the year”.
“The announcement of this contract in this CRE global tender reinforces our vision that energy storage will play an important role in the NIZ [non-interconnected zones) and confirms our leadership position in this developing future market,” states Saft energy storage director François Bouchon.
