SunEdison completes 24MW Cascade

PV group SunEdison has completed construction of the 24MW Cascade plant in the California Desert.

Located in north Joshua Tree, the plant covers 61 hectares and uses more than 75,000 SunEdison Silvantis PV modules.

Cascade will supply electricity to San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) through a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA).

The project's PPA was awarded under the reverse auction-based California Renewable Auction Mechanism (RAM).

It is the largest solar project so far to come online under RAM and the first constructed for SDG&E through the programme.

Wells Fargo provided tax-equity financing for Cascade. Since 2007, it has financed more than 200 solar projects developed by SunEdison.

The plant will be managed by the SunEdison Renewable Operation Center (ROC).
