UK-record rooftop PV on car plant
UK-based automotive group Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has installed what it claims is Britain’s most powerful rooftop solar array to serve its new engine factory.
JLR has deployed 21,000 modules for a capacity of 5.8MW on its Engine Manufacturing Centre in Staffordshire, in the English Midlands.
The Indian-owned auto group said the PV array – which currently meets about 30% of the engine plant’s needs – will be expanded to 6.3MW by the year’s end.
The £500m ($829m) factory will produce engines for Jaguar’s new XE vehicle.
The JLR installation surpasses the 5MW rooftop deployment opened last year by rival luxury car-maker Bentley on its factory in northern England.
