The company said it “has obtained a favorable environmental rating from the authorities of the Chilean Environmental Service” for the project.
The solar thermal tower – which will have 17.5 hours of molten-salts storage capability – will be sited in Chile’s sun-rich Atacama Desert, which has also become a favourite location for PV developers.
Abengoa will officially start work on the project next week.
