Intersolar opens doors to world

Intersolar, the world's leading solar energy fair opened in Munich today, with 1,134 exhibitors displaying their products and some 50,000 visitors expected from 150 nations.

"Given the continuing consolidation in the industry, we are very satisfied with the attendance of the fair," Markus Elsässer from the fair's organiser Solar Promotion said at an opening press conference.

Elsässer stressed that a growth of the global PV market of 20% to 24% a year is reflected by an increasing expansion of the fair into solar storage systems, charging and e-mobility.

Most exhibitors still come from Germany, but their number dipped to 518 this year from 610 in 2013, possibly reflecting the downturn in the country's solar industry.

China follows in second spot with 215 exhibitors, before Austria, Italy and France.

Intersolar Munich will be open until Friday. The exhibiton that began today follows the conference held earlier this week.
