US solar group SunEdison built and equipped the $250m plant for Chilean steel group CAP, using 310,000 of its modules at the 280-hectare site.

CAP, which will act as offtaker for the output, said Amanecer will produce the equivalent of 15% of the group’s energy demand, flowing 270GWh into the Chilean network in its first year.

SunEdison said the project – finished in six months – was a “benchmark” for international PV development.
