The Megawatt Solar project had been in tests since May and once operational, will push the country's overall operating solar PV generation capacity to more than 10MW.
Eletrosul invested R$9.5m ($4.3m) to install 4,200 solar PV panels. Power generated at the plant will be sold to companies through auctions.
It was financed by KfW and had support from Germany's international cooperation agency, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Gmb
The project was developed in partnership with the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and the Ideal institute (an NGO that promotes renewable energy in Latin America).
