Canadian Solar in new Turkey win

Canadian Solar has won a follow-on 12.6MW module order in Turkey, in a breakthrough deal for what many see as a key emerging market for both solar and wind energy.

The Ontario-based PV group will deliver the 255W and 260W modules to a consortium of companies based in the Kayseri Organized Industry Zone, including the cotton producer Besler Tekstil.

The same consortium last November ordered 2.2MW of modules from Canadian Solar.

Prior to that Canadian Solar had won a handful of small but symbolically important orders in Turkey, which last year installed just 6MW of PV capacity, but which is expected to grow quickly as a market – with 2014 tipped as a possible break-out year.

“We are expanding our presence and solidifying our competitive position in Turkey,” says chief executive Shawn Qu.
