The 39,312 solar modules are located on what was unused land adjacent to the world-famous 2.5-mile (4km) oval track built in 1909.

SunWize Technologies designed, engineered and installed the solar facility.

Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL) is purchasing the electricity and will also own the solar renewable energy credits the system generates.

The speedway is the world’s largest spectator sporting facility with permanent seating capacity at around 267,300.
