OPA offers 490 FIT solar contracts
The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) is ready to offer 500 contracts for renewable energy projects totaling 123.5MW under its Feed-in-Tariff (FIT-3) Program.
The contract offers include 490 for solar PV, eight for bio-energy, and one each for wind and waterpower.
Of these, 257 projects (60 MW) are with Aboriginal participation, 161 projects (42 MW) with municipal or public sector entity participation and 81 projects (21.5 MW) with community participation.
If finalized, the solar PV rooftop contracts will pay 39.6 cents/kWh for projects under 10kW; 34.5 cents/kWh between 10kW and 100kW and 32.9 cents/kWh above 100kW.
Non-rooftop solar PV will pay 29.1 cents/kWh for projects below 10kW and 28.8 cents/kWh above that project size.
FIT 3 program administrator OPA says prices to be paid will cover project costs and allow for a reasonable return on investment over the contract term.
“The province’s investments in clean energy initiatives, like the Feed-In Tariff Program, are attracting private sector investment, creating local jobs and helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” says Ontario Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli.
