Q Cells aims for 1.5GW at factories

Germany-based PV manufacturer Hanwha Q Cells said it will have more than 1.5GW of production capacity in operation by the end of the year, as it revealed shipments grew 68% to 539MW in the first half of 2014.

Q Cells – owned by Korean conglomerate Hanwha Chemical – has completed the addition of a 204MW production line at its main plant in Malaysia, bringing the total to 1.1GW.

The company also expects to squeeze another 200MW out of the Malaysia factory, plus some 30MW at its 200MW plant in Thalheim, Germany, via operational improvements as a result of a 'manufacturing excellence’ programme.

Q Cells said the extra capacity would “satisfy the growing global demand for its high-quality PV modules and solutions”.
