Strata Solar PV projects start in NC

Developer Strata Solar says three solar PV projects totaling 18.2MW (dc) of generation capacity have begun producing power in North Carolina.

Sol Systems, a solar investment and financing company based in Washington, DC, says it provided most of the investment for the projects. It did not make total cost public.

"Tax structured investments have been critical to driving capital into the solar asset class," says Sol Systems chief executive Yuri Horwitz.

Sol Systems managed the investment on behalf of an insurance client as part of the firm's tax equity initiative to produce secure, sustainable solar investments for banks, insurance companies, utilities, and other large clients.

The three new arrays will displace about 16,000 tons of CO2 each year. They are located in Laurinburg, Clarkton, and Spring Hope.

Horwitz says Sol Systems expects to deploy tax equity into an additional 18MW to 20MW of solar projects this year in North Carolina.
