Japan PV shipments reach 1.88GW

Domestic PV module shipments in Japan rose to roughly 1.88GW in the three months to 30 June, 2014, from 1.65GW a year earlier, as utility-scale demand continued to support growth.

Shipments to developers of utility-scale projects rose to 657.1MW, from 452.3MW during the same period in 2013, according to statistics from the Japan Photovoltaic Energy Association (JPEA).

Residential installations accounted for roughly 493.4MW of the total, from approximately 572.3MW a year earlier.

The JPEA surveyed 39 solar module suppliers, including domestic heavyweights such as Kyocera, Sharp, Solar Frontier and Panasonic, as well as foreign players such as First Solar, REC Solar and Yingli.
