Sonnedix nabs first Japan PV funds

Global IPP Sonnedix has secured financing for its first PV projects in Japan, totalling 4.5MW.

Hitachi Capital will provide an undisclosed amount of funds to support development, Sonnedix said in an online statement.

Hitachi Systems is set to build and run the solar plants in the city of Hokuto, to the west of Tokyo in Yamanashi prefecture.

Foreign companies — even established players — often struggle to obtain funding for PV projects in Japan.

Sonnedix will also provide a 31.2kW array for a community centre in Hokuto.

Sonnedix now claims a global PV portfolio of roughly 100MW, including installations in France, Italy, Spain, the United States, Japan, Thailand, Chile and South Africa.

In March, Sonnedix completed a 9.5MW solar array in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

And last November, it secured a contract to develop 86MW of solar in South Africa’s Northern Cape region.
