Dominion advances 30MW program

Dominion Virginia Power (DVP) has begun construction of a third solar PV project under a 30MW program whereby the electric utility builds and operates facilities on leased rooftops or grounds of commercial buildings or public properties.

DVP considers the 70kW rooftop system due online next month at Virginia Union University in Richmond to be a demonstration site under its Solar Partnership Program. The utility is selecting certain sites that offer opportunities for customer outreach and education of solar technologies.

This site is located at the Henderson Center for student activities at the university, one of the oldest historically black institutions in the US South.

DVP has completed larger rooftop solar installations at the Canon Industrial Resource Technologies facility in Gloucester and at Old Dominion University in Norfolk.

When completed, the Solar Partnership Program will generate enough power for up to 7,500 homes.

The utility’s parent company Dominion has a nationwide solar portfolio totaling 232MW.
