PNM starts work on 22.8MW PV

Electric utility PNM has begun construction on three ground-mounted solar PV facilities totaling 22.8MW in New Mexico and is seeking regulatory approval to add 40MW more in 2015, Recharge has learned.

The solar plants in Cibola, Sandoval and Valencia counties will provide power for almost 9,000 homes when operational in late fourth quarter and cost about $48m to construct, according to the utility.

PNM also has eight solar facilities in operation. Total investment in solar by year end will be $269m.

Solar is now 1.8% of the energy mix at PNM, New Mexico's dominant electric utility.
