Guangdong East's 200MW Japan plan

Chinese power equipment manufacturer Guangdong East Power has signed a cooperative framework agreement with a unit of Hong Kong-based coal distributor Winsway to build 200MW of solar in Japan.

Winsway's subsidiary in Tokyo and Shenzhen-listed Guangdong East Power, which is based in the southern Chinese city of Dongguan, plan to jointly invest, develop, build and run solar projects in Japan through 2015, according to a Chinese-language statement.

They did not disclose additional details about their planned foray into PV development.

Guangdong East primarily makes uninterruptible power source (UPS) equipment.

In 2010, Japanese trading giant Itochu invested in a unit of Beijing-based Winsway to obtain coal from Mongolia.

And in 2011, Winsway teamed up with Japanese conglomerate Marubeni to buy Canadian metallurgical-coal producer Grande Cache Coal.
