Terms of the deal between the California companies, which is subject to regulatory approval, were not released. Sempra, based in San Diego, and PG&E with headquarters in San Francisco, are among the largest combination electric and natural gas utilities in the US.
Sempra Generation, a unit of Sempra Energy, will own the plant. Construction on the 4.4sq km facility is expected to begin in early 2012.
