Gansu, in northwest China,l has been a hotbed of renewables activity in recent years across both the solar and wind sectors.

Rival module maker JinkoSolar recently signed a 200MW development deal with Jinchuan Group, while last autumn Beijing approved 3GW of new wind capacity in the province, despite Gansu’s ongoing challenges with grid and curtailment issues.

But the province’s enormous wind base will ultimately help get transmission lines built, with Trina acknowledging the attraction of being able to “to sell electricity to other regions” in addition to helping meet local needs.
