Myanmar 'set for 210MW PV plant'

Myanmar's government has signed an initial $275m deal with solar developer Green Earth Power to build the nation's first utility-scale PV plant at 210MW, claim media reports in Thailand.

Thailand-based Green Earth Power also said it is negotiating to build another 200MW solar plant in the country, near either Yangon or Mandalay, according to The Nation.

A Green Earth Power official told the Bangkok-based daily the company expects to sign a power purchase agreement with Myanmar's government within the next three months. Construction of the project will likely be completed a year and a half after that agreement is signed.

A flood of foreign manufacturers, including US and Japanese automakers, have been investing in Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) in response to democratic reforms the country has implemented since 2011, rapidly driving up demand for electricity.
