Negev Energy – a joint venture between Abengoa and local group Shikun & Binui – will build the plant in the Ashalim region of southern Israel.

Israel Electricity Corporation will buy the output of the parabolic trough plant via a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA).

Construction is due to start in 2014 after the PPA is signed and financing in place.

Last November a consortium including BrightSource Energy and Alstom won the right to build a second, 121MW plant at Ashalim based on solar-tower technology.
