Last year the US Army Corps of Engineers unveiled plans to spend $7bn buying power from wind, solar, biomass and geothermal projects owned and operated by privatecompanies, with the intention of having 1GW of contracted renewables capacity on its books by 2025.

However, in announcing the list of companies eligible for the Army contracts yesterday, the Department of Defense (DoD) specified that the full $7bn is “for theuse of solar technology”.
