Korea to help Uzbek PV plans

South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) has agreed to support the authorities in Uzbekistan in developing utility-scale PV plants, according to Korean media reports.

Last month, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) agreed to lend Uzbekistan $110m for a 100MW solar project in Samarkand, with an additional $200m to come from state-run energy group Uzbekenergo and a national development fund.

Under a memorandum of understanding signed this week, Seoul agreed to provide technical support for Tashkent’s efforts to select an ideal site in which to jointly build and run a test facility, Korean news agency Yonhap said.
