Construction on the project, at a site 64km west of Phoenix, is slated to begin the middle of this year and be completed by 2013, employing more than 200 people.
Sempra is eyeing up to 700MW of total capacity at the site, to be built in phases. Sempra Generation chief executive Jeffrey Martin says such large, multi-phase projects “are at the heart of our renewable strategy”.
