APS now has 304MW in clean energy generation including 223MW through power purchase agreements and is developing a further 597MW.
As part of that effort, the utility is committed under long-term contract to purchasing the full 250MW of power to be generated by the Solana concentrating solar plant southwest of Phoenix. Developer Abengoa Solar may have it ready for operation as early as late 2012
Solana will use parabolic mirrors that focus the sun’s heat on fluid that will transfer heat energy to water, creating steam that will run conventional turbines.
